Martinez Visits Eastbrook, Southeast

J.R. Martinez is known across the country for winning the mirror ball trophy on Dancing with the Stars and starring as combat veteran Brot Monroe on ABC’ s Emmy® Award-winning daytime drama All My Children. After Thursday, students at Eastbrook Middle School and Southeast High School got to know him a little better.

During school-wide assemblies at both schools, J.R. shared his energy with students by telling stories about growing up as the son of a single mom and being burned on most of his body while serving in Iraq. He paired his stories of challenge with stories of triumph, encouraging students to be understanding of others and to believe in themselves.

"Do you know what helps me every day?" he asked students a Eastbrook. "I believe in myself."
