Several roads closings may slow down students, families, and school staff as they commute to schools opening on Wednesday, Aug. 10. Drivers should consider these road closings and suggested detours shared by the Whitfield County Department of Public Works as you plan your route to school.

Reed Road re-alignment between Rauschenberg Road & Izlar Way

The construction project will consist of the re-alignment of Reed Road near an existing pond between Rauschenberg Road and Izlar Way. The road work is expected to continue until October.

Traffic Impact:  Detour will be required, shown with arrows above. Reed Road will be open to local resident traffic only between Poplar Springs Road and Rauschenberg Road. Detour will be marked and route thru traffic along Waring Road.

Rauschenberg Road Curve re-alignment

The goal of this construction project is to improve the 90 degree curve on Rauschenberg Road between Edelweiss Way and Maple Grove Road NW. This project is also expected to continue through October.

Traffic Impact:  Periodic lane closures will be required that should not last for longer than 15 minutes before traffic will be allowed to continue along Rauschenberg Road.

Dunnagan Road Bridge

Work on the bridge began in March prevents travel between Lafayette Road (Highway 201) & Old Ringgold Road and will continue until its completion.

Traffic Impact: Traffic west of this location must use Old Ringgold Road or Quinton Road to access Lafayette Highway (Highway 201).Traffic east of this location must use Dunnagan Road to reach Lafayette Highway.

Burgess Road Curve Improvement

The construction project between Cedar Ridge Road and Tibbs Bridge Road will consist of improving the road condition in the curve at the intersection of Elton Drive and Burgess Road. This project is expected to continue through October.

Traffic Impact: Traffic west of this location must use Cedar Ridge Road and traffic to the south should travel on Tibbs Bridge Road.

Please direct any questions about these road improvement projects to Whitfield County Engineer Kent Benson at (706) 275-7552.
