Superintendent Barge Names Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools

Two Whitfield County High Schools earned recognition from the Georgia Department of Education as 2012 AP Honor Schools.

Northwest Whitfield High School is an AP STEM School and AP STEM Achievement School (STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Southeast Whitfield High School is an AP Access and Support School.

State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge yesterday named 367 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools as the Georgia Board of Education proclaimed today, Wednesday, Feb. 8, as AP Day.

Whitfield Students Advise State Superintendent

Two Whitfield County high school students are serving this year on Georgia School Superintendent Dr. John Barge's Student Advisory Council.
 
Colter Creswell, a senior at Northwest, and Whitfield Career Academy Sophomore Erica Manis are two of more than 700 students across the state who asked to serve on the 50-member council.
 
The council's first meeting was Tuesday to share advice about how state policies are impacting their classroom. Student advisors will meet in Atlanta once more during this school year.
